Here's a photo I took of a poster that was on the wall. Another interesting thing about Carlsbad is that it is the summer home to about 1 million female bats who go there to have babies. They roost in part of the cave that is inaccessible to tourists. The best part of the bat story is that all the bats leave the cave at sunset every night to feed. They swarm out of the cave in a circular fashion, all 1million at the same time. There is a viewing area just outside the caves and the sight is spectacular! The bat guano in the place where they roost is up to 50 feet thick.In the 1920's, this guano was mined and used for fertilizer for California citrus groves.
